Alishba Ehmed
Ehmed’s bio:
As a first-year student at John Jay College, Ehmed hopes to attend law school with the goal of assisting those facing injustice. She wants to provide unheard people and groups a means through which to have their voices heard. As a part of that goal, Alishba is one of the only first-year students to ever work on production for John Jay’s Life Out Loud podcast, a nonfiction series dedicated to diversifying the voices typically heard in contemporary storytelling. For the show, she hosts, writes interview questions, sound edits, and more! Her English 101 creative nonfiction essay entitled, “The Birthday Gift” was recently shared on episode 5.2 entitled “Found Out,” and her English 101 research project entitled, “The Death of Relationships: An Analysis of Parental Death and Subsequent Communication Between Siblings” was recently featured by the college in honor of Research and Creativity Week.
Ehmed talks about her writing process:
The most rewarding aspect of conducting this research was the sense of accomplishment I had after putting it all together, and realizing that I can apply it to my own life. Taking an issue from works of fiction and turning it into a research project with peer-reviewed articles was not something I thought I could do, but I was very proud that I had done just that. The research also helped me come to terms with how my relationships with my own siblings could change as we age.
